Meet Your Eats Peeps
Meet LizLiz Whalen is the owner & lead trainer at Studio B with a passion for helping people feel their very best.
WHAT HAS YOUR JOURNEY BEEN LIKE BECOMING A PERSONAL TRAINER? WHY ARE YOU PERSONALLY PASSIONATE ABOUT EXERCISE? I have been a fitness professional for 12+ years and have experience in sports medicine fitness centers to small gyms to large athletic clubs...but I love the community feel of smaller studios the best, which is why I started the studio in Libby. Movement is sooo Powerful & our bodies and systems work the best when we are in motion and moving often. WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR CORE VALUES AS A TRAINER? Foundational practices (mobility, pilates, yoga) can be just as important, if not more, than larger motor movements of strength and cardio workouts. If you don't have good stabilization, body position and mental focus eventually you will be more likely to get injured WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WORKOUT OR TYPE OF EXERCISE? I love variety...I find that when I do the same style of workouts for too long I get board and my body does not get the challenges it needs CAN YOU SHARE WITH US YOUR SECRET TO MOTIVATION? I wish I had a secret. Just like anyone else it seems to ebb & flow. I like to find ways to commit via a friend to run with or a class I signed up and paid for helps me stay consistent and routine is a powerful thing;) DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE SAYING, QUOTE, OR IDEA THAT DRIVES YOU AS A PROFESSIONAL? Embrace being uncomfortable!! All things in life are hard & once you accept that uncomfortable feeling and work through it you feel like a champ!! And I don't know anyone that has not been sooo incredibly grateful & proud of themself after they got through a good challenge. HOW DOES HEALTHY EATING PLAY INTO YOUR OVERALL WELLNESS PHILOSOPHY? Food is fuel, but it's also community, joy, and comfort. I think the fitness world overcomplicates eating ALOT. Unless l'm working towards a very specific athletic goal, I don't diet! Diets don't last and too much restriction isn't sustainable. I try to eat lots of protein, veg, fruit, and minimize my carbs but still have fun with food and of course...chocolate;) WHAT IS A VALUABLE LESSON YOU’VE LEARNED SINCE BEGINNING YOUR CAREER? Be proud of the smallest accomplishments! WHAT KINDS OF CHANGES--PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ETC--DO YOUR CLIENTS ANTICIPATE WHILE WORKING WITH YOU? I hope that eventually working out becomes more about feeling empowered and strong and less about looking a certain way. Mentally my clients gain confidence when they do something they thought was not possible like squatting 100lbs or completing their first pull up. CAN YOU TALK A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THE TYPES OF SERVICES YOU OFFER AND WHERE TO FIND YOU FOR A CLASS? Head to the home page of our website & explore private training to group classes to the sauna. |
Meet MandyMandy Bell is the owner of Gracious Table.
WHAT HAS YOUR JOURNEY BEEN LIKE BECOMING A COOK/CHEF? WHY ARE YOU PERSONALLY PASSIONATE ABOUT FOOD? I have been a lover of cuisines from far away places for my entire adult life. Though I grew up on Hamburger Helper, once I had a job and could support myself, I loved to try globally inspired restaurants. I’ve worked in commercial kitchens and restaurants on and off for many years but I cooked for fun until the Gracious Table, which is my fifth career (Healthcare Administrator, YMCA Director, Personal Trainer and Youth Minister). Gathering people together to learn about and enjoy great food is my passion. WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR CORE VALUES AS A CHEF/COOK? I strive to give my guests a memorable experience, not just a meal. Bringing people together to share food around the table is one of the most uniting and powerful things we can do to create “community”. Too many of us spend time alone these days and coming together for lunch or dinner is a gift to cherish. Using fresh ingredients, spices, herbs and condiments that make the dish “pop” are my goals with everything that I create in my kitchen. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEAL? I love to create so many different menus that I cannot pick just one. When I go out to eat I almost always choose small plates to try different things. Spanish Tapas, Basque Pintxos, Japanese Izakaya, French Hors d'Oeuvres and other Small Plates are my favorites! I’ve grown to love a little spiciness or citrus zing in my meals to add depth and interest without added calories. CAN YOU TALK A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THE TYPES OF SERVICES YOU OFFER?? At the Gracious Table we offer Catering in our lovely space or at yours, Cooking Classes, Globally Inspired Dinners a few times a month and we Bake Sourdough Breads, Bagels and Treats in a great variety for the Farmers Market in spring/summer and our Pop-Up Bakery through fall/winter. |
